Building the Analytics Function at ClassKlap, an EdTech Startup

Objective

To establish a scalable analytics function at ClassKlap, an EdTech startup focused on improving learning outcomes in affordable schools across India. The goal was to design a long-term roadmap for tracking and enhancing key organizational KPIs across product, sales, marketing, and customer success, enabling data-driven decision-making at all levels.

Strategy

Develop a centralized data and analytics ecosystem that integrated business intelligence, machine learning, and data governance.
Key priorities included:

  • Automation & Visualization: Replace manual reporting with interactive BI dashboards for real-time decision-making.

  • Unified Data Infrastructure: Consolidate data from multiple systems to create a single source of truth.

  • Analytical Enablement: Build frameworks and train teams to foster a data-first culture.

Implementation

  • Established the analytics function from the ground up and defined its roadmap aligned with business goals.

  • Designed and deployed 20+ automated dashboards using Zoho Analytics and Google Data Studio, improving visibility into sales performance, customer service, and operational metrics.

  • Built analytical frameworks for key business functions — opportunity sizing, feature prioritization, pricing, incentives, collections, and profitability tracking.

  • Contributed to the ‘Visor’ data warehousing initiative, aggregating data from CRM, supply chain, customer service, and finance systems into a unified Metabase BI environment for a 360° customer view.

  • Supervised the development of a machine learning model that used unified data to predict customer retention, increasing retention rates by 19%.

  • Developed the company’s first zero-cost CRM solution using Google Suite and App Scripts, later transitioning to Zoho CRM for scale.

  • Led a third-party impact study (sponsored by MSDF) to measure the product’s effect on student learning outcomes.

  • Conducted training workshops to increase analytics adoption among sales and service teams, improving organizational data literacy.
